Balance a buzzword we all struggle with that can be both daunting and confusing. How do you balance life and your goals? How can I have fun AND eat healthy? How can I go out with friends and not worry that I’m ruining my progress? If you’ve heard it once, you’ve probably heard it a million times. LIVE YOUR LIFE. A few years from now what you’ll have are your memories of great times with friends and family, not of the time you decided to stay in to be away from temptation. The reality is that one night out with friends enjoying yourself will not derail your journey. Health and fitness are something to be incorporated into your life not the other way around. I too have struggled with balance, sometimes it’s difficult to be around family and friends who are seemingly unworried about making it to the gym the next day or filling their plate with veggies, protein and carbs. Everyone’s journey is different and what works great for someone else may not work for you. It takes trial and error, a subject I am very familiar with, to find your happy place. For me, balance is eating most meals at home, going to the gym when I have a spare hour, giving myself some grace if I have to skip a workout or indulge at dinner. We have to be understanding, talking to ourselves as though we were speaking with a good friend or family member. Would a friend ever tell you, you need to exercise to work off a delicious meal you had or that you were lacking in willpower because you had a few drinks? Absolutely not. Be the best version of yourself while making health and fitness work for you. It will take time, it will take patience but it will happen and it will be worth it. Balance is a game but not one that can’t be won.
